THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL INSPIRATION DESIGN

Welcome back to the Blog, my sweet Friends!

Today, I am so excited to share that my FIRST EVER styled editorial has been published in Chic Vintage Brides!!! YAY! I will be sharing about my inspiration and design from this Styled Editorial from last year in April.

DESIGN INSPIRATION

This styled shoot was inspired by the TV Show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. This shoot was designed to show a different side of the 1950’s. I wanted this shoot to captivate and inspire many the way that the 50’s excites and inspires me. The 50’s brings nostalgia and timeless romance full of bold color and fun! There’s something so special about handwritten notes, wax seals and backyard weddings with beautiful petite desserts. This shoot was a modern take on all of the nostalgia of the 1950’s.

The design was meant to be colorful and bold with rich jewel tones, like burgundy and hues of purple.

FLORAL DESIGN

The flowers here needed to be a little bit unique, it needed to be different than what you would see at every other wedding these days. This shoot had a very backyard wedding feel so it needed to be as if you created this bouquet with hand picked flowers from your garden. Rainy Day Blooms chose some very beautiful yet unique pieces like Dusty Miller, purple hued Calla Lilly, Common Lilac and Baby Artichokes. These accents gave the bouquet and floral runner a very unique feel, it added the rich tones of purple as well as making it feel like you could find it all in your backyard.

THE OLD FASHIONED ELEMENTS

We chose to have rich tones be the driving color for the Stationary by Honest Type. Our vintage elements consisted of beautiful wax seals, old fashioned stamps and calligraphy, while vellum added the hint of whimsy that this shoot needed.

For hair and makeup, Cheek to Cheek Hair Artistry gave Rachel a beautifully curled up-do with a bold red lip. Those are two classics that we are always reminded of whenever you hear 1950’s.

THE ATTIRE

The attire was very much a modern take on 1950’s with a lace overlay dress, minimal train and minimal layers of material to the wedding dress. We wanted the elements of the 50’s but with a modern twist so that the everyday bride could still wear this style. The dress was a champagne color with a lace overlay bodice neckline. For our Groom, we chose another rich jewel tone, a deep green. We wanted to continue the theme of rich jewel tones with his suit and the color of the suit paired so perfectly with the Bride’s bouquet.

OUR TABLESCAPE

Whenever you hear “1950’s”, your mind immediately takes you to a backyard wedding, so with that in mind, the tablescape needed to be rich in tones but simple with a clean layout and reduced accessories. We chose rich, jewel toned red napkins, black plates, white and gold plates and gold cutlery with etched goblets. It was designed to be simple luxury. We also chose to have Bride and Groom place card menus. That’s an aspect that you do not get to see very often but it’s a nice way of including the Bride and Groom into the tablescape design by giving them their very own menu cards.

CATERING

Finally, to complete this beautiful 1950’s inspired day, we chose to showcase a Petite Dessert Bar and Specialty Drinks Station by Colette’s Catering. We had vibrant and delicious Lemon Tarts, Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Creme Pots and Blueberry Panna Cotta. The Bar consisted of all vintage inspired drinks with names like Old Fashioned, Air Mail, Manhattan and Mule.

This Editorial was so much fun! I loved incorporating the timeless and beautiful details of simpler, old fashioned times. I hope you love it as much as I do! Share with me below what your thoughts are!

xoxo, naomi
